Welcome to Tavistock Photography Club

tavistock market

Tavistock Camera Club was formed in 1971 by a group of 12 enthusiasts. Today the Club is thriving with between 30-40 members. The Club is supported by its members and run by an elected committee which tries to keep everyone up to date with relevant internal and external aspects of photography. An annual subscription covers the cost for the hire of the United Reformed Church where we meet as a group and host speakers and competition judges. The Club is also affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain through the Western Counties Photographic Federation.

The Club has evolved rapidly over the last 17 years or so. From the days of very traditional wet photography where those with dark rooms would spend hours hovering over trays of chemicals, to today where the Club has embraced all that modern digital photography can throw at it. To help with this the Club took advantage of the “Grants for all Scheme”, and was awarded £5000 to purchase a laptop computer and digital projector.

Our membership varies between experienced and novice photographers. We pride ourselves in being a friendly and helpful Club who try to provide advice, tips and general information to help everyone develop and enhance their skills in all aspects of their hobby. We have a taster system for potential new members to come along and enjoy an evening where they can meet like minded people and get a feel for the Club.

We try to produce a programme which features guest speakers who are often experts in their particular field of photography.

Competition judges are constructive in their comments and act as a learning vehicle from which all members benefit whether they enter a competition or not.

Our competitions are varied where subject matter encourages members at all levels to challenge themselves.
